The u.s. has asked the Athens parking fleet Unmanned Aircraft (known as drones) in Crete, reveals the newspaper ''Vima tis kyriakis''.
This move, which brought pressure to bear on the Greek Government, within the framework of the strategy for combating Islamic terrorism and asymmetric threats that come to the surface from the instability in the Southeastern Mediterranean.

According to the newspaper, the US request was initially the installation of drones in Kalamata air base, however, this has not been possible, as it would give the impression that expands the American presence in Greece.
Eventually interest shifted to Crete and to the use of the airbase at Kastelli, where the 133rd combat group.
