// A young polar bear sniffs the air for any sign of a seal sleeping on
the sea ice. I took this photograph in Svalbard, Norway where it has
warmed as much as 15F. Traditionally, in a place that was surrounded by
sea ice year round, there are now areas where there is no ice for up to
6 months a year. Polar bears need ice in order to hunt and survive.
