Kate Middleton-The Editor

Arianna Huffington has (temporarily) hired a new marquee editor: Kate Middleton.

The Duchess is raising awareness for children’s mental health issues.
As we had been informed several weeks ago would be the case, the Duchess of Cambridge slipped into a pair of sweatpants, ordered some takeout, and then sat down at her laptop and logged into Slack this morning, as she took over as the editor of Huffington Post U.K. for the day. O.K., per the series of photos released by the palace, there are no sweatpants or takeout involved here (Kate looks as resplendent as ever, dressed in a white frilly top), but Kate is running the operation today from the palace (we imagine working out of Kensington Palace is a bit of a change of pace for the HuffPo U.K. staffers).

All of the content Kate is overseeing for the site is part of the Young Minds Matter effort, designed to raise awareness for children’s mental health issues, which has been one of the central causes Kate has taken on. In her own blog post—for which they made her a bio page and customized banner, the whole shebang—Kate wrote about what she has observed and learned about in her work, touching on the stigmas that are associated with children receiving care and attention for mental-health issues. She also mentioned her own children, writing, “Like most parents today, William and I would not hesitate to seek help for our children if they needed it. We hope to encourage George and Charlotte to speak about their feelings, and to give them the tools and sensitivity to be supportive peers to their friends as they get older. We know there is no shame in a young child struggling with their emotions or suffering from a mental illness.”
First Lady Michelle Obama contributed a post, as well, titled “Let’s Change the Conversation Around Mental Health” (“Sure, Michelle, I’ll run your piece, just keep it under a thousand words if you can, 800 even—you know, as tight as possible, Snapchat generation and all of that!” Kate barked into a speakerphone, we’re sure. “And, I hate to make things weird, but you’ll tweet this, right? I sort of need to know before we say yes”).
The endeavor seems to be paying dividends so far, as #YoungMindsMatter has been trending on Twitter in the U.K. for most of the day, and was also trending in the U.S. this morning. (“Keep it up,” Kate says, putting on glasses and taking a sip of coffee or something. “We’ve got traffic goals and page-view minimums, people.”)
